MIT students launched Project Icarus; a low-cost high altitude platform for digital pictures using a weather balloon and helium.
They are releasing plans that detail how anyone can duplicate the project for about $150. No charge for the plans.
Their launch occurred on Sept 2, 2009 and achieved a height of 17.5 miles!
