Model Rocket Design

Model rocket design is an exciting hobby enjoyed by many model rocket builders. The thrill of seeing a model rocket that you designed soaring into the sky is not easily matched.

Up until recently model rocket design was very much a hit or miss proposition. Usually we started out by making small customizations to an existing kit. The next step was to build something similar to a design that you knew would fly.

Often we mixed and matched model rocket parts from different kits. As we strayed further from the existing designs are chances of success typically decreased.

Today, model rocket design is an entirely different activity. We have sophisticated rocket design software available that actually stimulates the flight capability of our design.

The software is called RockSim and it’s produced by Apogee. The software makes it easy to imagine new designs and see them come true. While not cheap, you have to balance it against the disappointment of crashing a rocket that never was going to fly in the first place.
